Houston Salsa Dance Lessons

Salsa classes are provided in four skill levels: Beginner Salsa, Pre-Intermediate Salsa, Intermediate Salsa, and Advanced Salsa.

Beginner Salsa introduces students to the basis Salsa step, the right turn, side steps, and how to create and maintain a frame for closed dance position. By the end of the class, students have learned a simple routine they can mix and vary to practice dancing.

Pre-Intermediate Salsa introduces students to different turns and more complex moves. Additional emphasis is placed on timing, leading, and following. By the end of the class, students have learned their first club-style social dance routine. They can combine the moves in this routine with the moves from the Beginner Salsa routine to create a variety of dance patterns.

Intermediate Salsa teaches students to improve their timing and balance, introduces them to more sophisticated moves, and offers a new routine each month. Students are expected to remain in the Intermediate class for several months until they have improved their timing and technique sufficiently to move into the Advanced Salsa class.

Advanced Salsa classes pay greater attention to styling and technique. Students are introduced to the basic concepts of dance theory. Emphasis is placed on learning faster, more complex moves such as spinning and coordinated partner position changes.
