Houston Ballroom Dance Lessons

Ballroom dancing is alive and well in Houston, TX. The Dance Passion dance studio offers a three-sequence course in Ballroom Dancing every month. The Monday night Ballroom Dancing classes cover Beginner Ballroom, Pre-Intermediate Ballroom, and Intermediate Ballroom Dancing.

The Beginner Ballroom class teaches students basic steps for six dance styles: Waltz, Rumba, FoxTrot, Jitterbug, Tango, and Cha Cha. Students learn basic timing and how to dance in closed and semi-closed dance partner position. Students also learn the importance of creating and maintaining a frame, as well as moving from the center.

The Pre-Intermediate Ballroom class teaches students additional moves for all six dance styles. Students learn new turns, simple patterns, and dance to slightly faster tempo music.

The Intermediate Ballroom class introduces students to longer, more complicated step combinations. Each month the class emphasizes one dance more than the others. Students improve their timing and lead/follow skills as well as become accustomed to increased tempo.

The three Latin dances offered in the Ballroom Dance sequence are Rumba, Tango, and Cha Cha. The Rumba step very closely resembles the Waltx step and students who are comfortable with either Waltz or Rumba are usually comfortable with the other dance. The Cha Cha is the hardest of the Latin dances to learn, but students who master the syncopated step often enjoy Cha Cha very much.

The Waltz, FoxTrot, and Jitterbug are more relaxed dances, good for many social occasions including weddings, quinceaneras, formal dances, and swing dance parties.
